Why Join a Church?

Jesus Christ did not die merely for us to live our own individual lives; He sacrificed Himself for the Church—not a physical building, but a living Body of believers. Our growth as disciples - striving to be like Jesus - is not meant to happen in isolation, but alongside others in community. None of us can carry our burdens or fight our sins alone; we are designed to grow up together as disciples of Jesus.
To grow as disciples together is why we engage in Church, which means to experience all that God has designed for us, we must lay down some freedoms and commit to one another in the service of a greater good, partnering together to be part of a local church to ensure the Gospel goes out into our community. |

Partnership
At Gisborne Church of Christ, we believe that being part of a church community is about more than just attending a service on a Sunday. It’s about everyday discipleship, being a part of a community, and actively participating in the mission God has given us in the Macedon Ranges, Sunbury, and beyond.
That’s why we use the language of Partnership.
In many organisations, a "member" is someone who holds a card and receives a service, like a spectator watching from the grandstands. A "partner," however, is someone who is on the field with the team. Partners don't just consume; they contribute. Stepping into Partnership marks the transition from saying "that is the church I go to" to "this is my church"—a place where you can be an active disciple of Christ, spurred on by a committed community as we engage in Christ’s mission for the world.
That’s why we use the language of Partnership.

Partnership is open to those who:
● Are 16 years or older
● Have put their faith in Jesus and submitted their lives to Him as Lord, Saviour, and God
● Are committed to prayerful dependence on God in all of life
● Have been regularly attending Gisborne Church of Christ for at least six months
● Are willing to promote and support the mission of Gisborne Church of Christ
● Are not currently formal members of another church (unless special circumstances apply)
● Have put their faith in Jesus and submitted their lives to Him as Lord, Saviour, and God
● Are committed to prayerful dependence on God in all of life
● Have been regularly attending Gisborne Church of Christ for at least six months
● Are willing to promote and support the mission of Gisborne Church of Christ
● Are not currently formal members of another church (unless special circumstances apply)
What Does Partnership Look Like?
Becoming a partner is not simply filling out a form. Partnership is a mutual relationship. As a church leadership team, we commit to providing biblical teaching, pastoral care, and equipping you as a disciple of Christ. In turn, we ask our Partners to commit to four key areas:
● Gospel Alignment: Affirming our Statement of Beliefs and aligning with the core vision of Gisborne Church of Christ. (Click here to see our Statements of Belief)
● Corporate Gathering: Prioritising consistent attendance, actively engaging in the life of the community, and supporting and caring for your church family as we grow in godliness and maturity.
● Active Service: Using your unique gifts, skills, and experiences to serve the church and the wider local community.
● Generosity: Prayerfully and joyfully contributing financially to support the shared mission and local ministries of the church.

Partnership Includes Membership
To function as both a spiritual family and a recognised organisation, our Partnership commitment includes legal membership. When you step into Partnership, you automatically fulfill the requirements to become a formal Member of Gisborne Church of Christ Inc. giving you a voting voice in our church's future at our Annual General Meetings.
How to Become a Partner
If you are ready to become a Partner at Gisborne Church of Christ, the next step is simple:
Fill in the Partnership Form - online (click here), or in person at church - and one of our pastors or leaders will review your application and follow up with a brief, informal chat to hear your testimony, and help you find the best place to employ your gifts.
Once completed, your application is taken to our Church Council for formal approval, officially welcoming you into the core of our church family.
